Ipswich Town dealt fresh injury blow to leave them without three players for Sheffield Wednesday trip

Cameron Burgess is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines in a major blow to Ipswich Town.

Kieran McKenna’s side travel to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, already without Cameron Humphreys due a quad injury and Sone Aluko, who is out with a knee problem.

Burgess suffered a number of facial fractures during the midweek win against Bristol Rovers and requires surgery.

"He has been to hospital and seen some specialists," confirmed McKenna.

"He has a few fractures in his upper facial area. There is a lot of swelling so that needs to come down and then he will hopefully have surgery next week.

"It’s a shame for him on a personal level because he was possibly playing the best football of his career, but he will come back strong. In his absence, though, lads will step up and do their bit."

Sheffield Wednesday will still be without Ben Heneghan for the visit of Ipswich. The defender has returned to training following a hamstring injury but is not ready to return this weekend.

Dennis Adeniran is still occupying the treatment room with a knee injury and faces several more weeks out. Boss Darren Moore has plenty of options as they look to build on a promising start to the campaign.
