Predictions computer forecasts whether Sheffield United will go up automatically and will Huddersfield Town, Hull City, Middlesbrough & Rotherham United stay up?

PRIOR to the last round of Championship games before the World Cup break, number crunchers have predicted how the final table will look - and while there is joy for one Yorkshire club, it makes for bad reading for two others.

Using their ratings for each team, data website FiveThirtyEight simulate seasons thousands of times to produce their prediction for each side’s final points tally and league position.

Expert reckon Sheffield United - who visit Cardiff City on Saturday - will finish the season in top two and end up as champions, despite currently being outside the top two behind Burnley and Blackburn Rovers, who meet in an East Lancashire derby on Sunday. They predict that the Blades will pip the Clarets, who they beat 5-2 last weekend, to silverware by a point.

Teams tipped to make the play-offs are Watford, Norwich, Blackburn and Millwall.

At the bottom, Huddersfield Town prop up the current table heading into Saturday's home game with Swansea - despite providing themselves with a moral-booster by way of an excellent midweek win at QPR, their first on the road this season.

But experts predict bad news for Town, who are predicted by the data boffins to stay bottom at season's end with 48 points. They are given a 50 per cent chance of being relegated.

Meanwhile, despite recording a historic first win at Bramall Lane in 42 years in midweek, Rotherham United are tipped to finish third from bottom in May with 51 points, one point below Hull City.

In the current table, the Millers are in a healthy 14th spot.

Experts believe that Wigan will be relegated along with Town and the Millers.

Middlesbrough are being tipped to get out of the relegation picture and finish just outside the top ten. Here is an explanation as to how the model works https://fivethirtyeight.com/methodology/how-our-club-soccer-predictions-work/
