Hull City transfer news: Randell Williams joins Bolton Wanderers as Tigers report mixed injury news for FA Cup

Winger Randell Williams has joined Bolton Wanderers for an undisclosed fee as Hull City begin the much-needed process of thinning out their squad.

The 26-year-old is yet to feature under new coach Liam Rosenior, and has only made five league starts in the whole of a Hull career which began in the summer of 2021.

Having inherited a bloated squad, Rosenior has recognised the need to thin out the numbers and although Williams is the first victim of that, he goes with his coach's best wishes.

"It's a fantastic move for Randell and he deserves it," commented Rosenior. "He's done absolutely nothing wrong in my time, it's just the squad size was so big. He's a very talented footballer and I know Ian Evatt plays a really good style of football and I think it's going to fit him like a glove so I wish Randell and his family all the best, he's more than welcome back here any time."

Others are expected to follow, and big-name players at that, with interest from their homeland in Turkish internationals Ozan Tufan and Dogukan Sinik.

Hull are in FA Cup third-round action at home to a Fulham side led by their former manager Marco Silva, and Rosenior had mixed news on the injury front ahead of the game.

Striker Benjamin Tetteh – another yet to feature under Rosenior, but in his case because of injury – is in the squad, but Allahyar Sayyadmanesh will be put through a fitness test on Friday.

Hull go into the game on the back of consecutive victories at Birmingham City and Wigan, only their second and third of Rosenior's eight-match tenure.

"Everybody's in a really positive mood, training's been really bright, the players have got a lot of confidence in them at the moment and it's really pleasing to see," said Rosenior. "It's great to go to two away games and win them. It puts us in a much better place in the table and hopefully that continues."

Rosenior will use his squad on Saturday.

"I love the FA Cup," he said. "It was one of the best days of my life with this football club in the FA Cup final and the run itself.

"The situation I'm in here, I want to give players a chance. I still don't know a lot of the players.

"The likes of Callum Elder and Lewie Coyle have deserved an opportunity to play and they will get that opportunity on Saturday. I need to see them.

"It's not just about the result, I want to win but I want to see us all work towards the bigger picture and that is involving players who maybe haven't had the chance they deserve."
