Emergency services rescue dog after Wetherby river plunge

A dog had to be rescued from a river in West Yorkshire by firefighters this morning.

The pet had come into difficulties in a stretch of the River Wharfe after it fell into the water at a spot off Lodge Lane in Wetherby.

A fire crew from Wetherby fire station was called to the scene, not far from the town centre, to save the dog at around 10.45am today.

The rescue operation was successful, with the dog now safe and well, according to West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.
