Police release CCTV video of Yorkshire street brawl outside teahouse which left teenager dead from knife wounds

Six men have now been sentenced for their part in the disorder outside the Garam Chai teahouse on Duckworth Lane in April 2021.

Muhammed Mujahid Hussain, 19, died from a single stab wound to the chest and the man accused of murdering him, Hashim Sajjad, was cleared at a trial after the jury accepted he was acting in self-defence.

Eight men were charged in connection with the disorder. Six men pleaded guilty in court and two others went on trial. One was found guilty and the other not guilty. One man will be sentenced at a later date.

Yesterday at Bradford Crown Court the six men were sentenced for violent disorder:-

- Mujahid Shah, 20, of Exmouth Place admitted violent disorder and was sentenced to 18 months in a Young Offenders institute.

- Danyal Majid, 19, of Hinchcliffe Street admitted violent disorder and was sentenced to 8 months in a Young Offenders institute.

- Saif Shah, 18, of West Park Road admitted violent disorder and was sentenced to 13 months in a Young Offenders institute.

- Zain Mahmood, 21, of Airedale College Terrace admitted violent disorder and was sentenced to 15 months suspended for two years.

- Javeed Khan, 21, of St Paul’s Avenue admitted affray and was sentenced to 3 months.

- Umar Shehzad (24) of Stamford Street was found guilty of violent disorder after a trial and was sentenced to 21 months in jail.

Senior Investigating officer Detective Superintendent Vanessa Rolfe said: “The death of Muhammed is another tragic reminder to us all of what can happen when knives are used in violent confrontations. His death was senseless and could so easily have been avoided.

“Knife crime can have terrible consequences and in this case has caused a young man to lose his life and left a family with a lifetime of grief.

“I hope this sends a strong message that we will not tolerate violent disorder on our streets, and there are serious consequences for being part in these incidents.

“Our sympathies remain with Muhammed’s family for their tragic and needless loss.”
